Abstract
Due to the researcher's own experiences of grief and the accompanying intensive study of the grief of orphaned parents, this doctoral project came into being. Guided by the research question, which searches for the specific characteristics of this life crisis as well as in particular the resources of the mourners with regard to a dignified existence after this catastrophe, a survey with affected persons was conducted using the empirical-qualitative research paradigm of Grounded Theory. The 17 interviews, conducted on the basis of a guide, were analyzed and evaluated according to specific criteria and using MAXQDA software. Among the most important findings of the study is that the particular situation of the parents is surreal and subversive, as well as that their grief is a transformative experience, capable of integrating the disaster they experienced in a beneficial way in their future lives. In this sense, the present work, with its findings and recommendations, sees itself as a contribution to practical theology.
