Abstract
Die ambivalenten Pa S↔O -Verben im Spanischen : synchrone und diachrone Aspekte In a large number of languages a very small but conspicuous group of verbs can be found whose particular feature is that - as a rule - it assigns at one time the function of the object and another time that of the subject to the same nominal phrase without altering its morphological status. In the first case the verbs are used transitively, in the second intransitively. This particular verb group was analysed in detail in the Italian and French language and especially in the latter a relatively large number of verbs could be determined. In Hispanic linguistics however there is a definite lack of research in this field. The claim of this empiric work in hand is derived from exactly this situation: on the one hand it sees itself as an extension of the studies on this very verb group by inquiring into the same subject and applying the same criteria of inquiry as in the previous research to just another language within the Western Romance language area. Its additional objective is to add to the synchronous approach towards the subject matter a diacronous one in order to be able to determine the origin of the above-mentioned verbal features and thus entering new academic territory.
