Abstract:
In ausführlichen Interviews

English
During 1918 and 1945 many Germans lived in the Netherlands. The study
shows that the process of constructing identity in individuals varies
significantly from the one in evidence for German organisations in the
Netherlands. After 1933 the German organisations very quickly adopted
the national-socialistic politics and ideology in their offer of national
identity. Contrary to that interviews with witnesses of this time show a
larger importance of emotional factors in an individual’s construction of
national identity.
The first part of the study takes a look at the offers of national identity
made by the German organisations in the Netherlands. The second part
places individual people at the centre of interest. The analysis of detailed
interviews reveals their individual processes of constructing their own
national identity.

Nederlands
