Diese kumulative Dissertation legt eine umfassende Analyse dieser Dimensionen vor und bündelt Erkenntnisse aus 16 Forschungsarbeiten. Aus den Ergebnissen geht hervor, dass nachhaltige Innovationen nur dann Wirkung entfalten, wenn Bürger:innen frühzeitig informiert und aktiv eingebunden werden. Ebenso wird deutlich, dass neue Formen von Führung und Zusammenarbeit notwendig sind, um soziale Kohäsion auch im digitalen Raum zu sichern. Schließlich macht die Untersuchung deutlich, dass erfolgreiche Smart City Transformationen flexible organisatorische Strukturen benötigen, die kommunale Verwaltung, lokale Wirtschaft und Zivilgesellschaft gleichermaßen einbeziehen, um technologische Potenziale zu entfalten. Methodisch verbindet die Dissertation qualitative, quantitative und Multi-Methoden-Ansätze und liefert fundierte Erkenntnisse für Wissenschaft und Praxis. Damit leistet die Dissertation sowohl einen theoretischen Beitrag zur Wirtschaftsinformatik als auch zeigt konkrete Handlungsmöglichkeiten für Kommunen und Entscheidungsträger auf und trägt dazu bei Smart Cities nicht nur technologisch, sondern auch sozial nachhaltig und resilient, zu gestalten.Advancing urbanization and the complex challenges it brings (including in the areas of sustainability, participation, and organization) make the transformation of cities into smart cities essential. This cumulative dissertation presents a holistic analysis of these dimensions and combines insights from 16 research papers. The results show that sustainable innovations only have an impact if citizens are informed at an early stage and actively involved. It also becomes clear that new forms of leadership and cooperation are necessary to ensure social cohesion in the virtual space. Finally, the dissertation highlights that successful smart city transformations require flexible organizational structures that equally involve municipal administration, the local economy, and civil society in order to unlock technological potential. Methodologically, the dissertation combines qualitative, quantitative, and multi-method approaches and provides solid insights for science and practice.
