Publication Metadata only ‘24/7 horny&training’: porn bots, authenticity, and social automation on InstagramThis Article presents a conceptual and methodological account of a small porn bot network, focusing on its embeddedness within Instagram use. The analysis explores the gendered design of bots as platform-native personas, particularly their capacity to perform within the confines of Instagram's increasingly strict sexual content controls. We address three performative trajectories in the bot-exploited 'Instagrammatics' of identity play, social influence, and attention capture. We argue that a bot programmed to operate with sexual content to generate attention relies on the paradoxical blend of pornographic 'imagination' and social media 'authenticity'. For our analysis, we manually identified 30 porn bot accounts spamming in the comment sections of highly visible Instagram posts (those published by @justinbieber). We then collected associated metadata – bot profile names and images, comments and comment likers, followers and followings, bot content, and links in the bot profile bios. By variously situating and combining these data, we discuss how networked automation taps into the sexualized social scripts imitated by 'artificial' and 'authentic' users alike. Our findings point to how porn bots re-enact gender as a programmed set of instructions, adapting to Instagram's vision of acceptable sexuality and revealing its normative order.Source Type:Article - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Metadata only “An A is an A?” Maybe in North America, but less so elsewhere(2023)With reference to recent debate about the increasing “an A is an A” mentality at business schools, I provide evidence on the prevalence of this mentality in North America versus other regions of the world (RoW). The evidence presented is derived from the data selection procedures employed in conducting systematic reviews of management research because a focus on specific journals in this selection can be seen as an artifact of the “an A is an A” mentality. My findings suggest that this mindset is more widespread in North American business schools and less so elsewhere. This implies that in order to find remedies against the detrimental effects of the “an A is an A” mentality, North American business school leaders and academics might find inspiration in other countries. In addition, I suggest that a part of the solution could also be directing PhD students toward a more inclusive selection of journals and Articles in reviews of management research.Source Type:Article - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Source Type:ArticleVolume number:18,1,7800 862 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Metadata only Abnormal Strain Rate‐Dependent Work‐Hardening Behavior in Quenching and Partitioning Steel(2024); Due to their high levels of formability and crashworthiness, the new quenching and partitioning (QP) steels are increasingly being used in car‐body structures. Using a unique experimental technique for tensile testing in a large strain‐rate range of 10 −4 –1000 s −1 , an anomalous work‐hardening behavior is found in a QP1180 steel that may affect its formability and crashworthiness. At the lowest strain rate of 10 −4 s −1 , the work‐hardening rate θ decreases linearly with increasing flow stress. With an increasing strain rate, however, an increasingly severe nonlinearity in the work‐hardening rate is evident, as has been observed in metastable austenitic steels when the deformation‐induced martensitic transformation occurs at lower temperatures. This work‐hardening‐rate peak reaches its maximum at 10 s −1 . Above this value, the peak decreases again, and at more than 500 s −1 , it behaves like the quasi‐static test. The corresponding material characteristics, such as elongation and strength, change similarly.Source Type:Article - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Publication Metadata only Acceptance of Digital Technology Among Male and Female University Students: With a Focus on STEM Students(2023); The acceptance of digital technologies is an important, cross-disciplinary indicator for the scientific and professional development of university students, especially STEM students. The study is based on Davis' Technology Acceptance Model and Ajzens' Theory of Planned Behavior. To find out whether and how both genders still differ in this area, students from three university faculties (education, economic sciences, natural sciences; N=428) were surveyed. The digital technology acceptance scale and scales recording the test subjects' personal media biography, digital skills, self-efficacy, performance goal orientations, control beliefs, and stress were applied. As a result, female and male students differ as far as digital technologies are concerned: In the total group, female students exhibit significantly lower values in digital technology acceptance, computer affinity and digital media selfefficacy. The separate analysis of STEM students yields encouraging results: In STEM, the profiles of both genders match in almost all points.Nevertheless, the regression models for predicting digital technology acceptance show that while the attitudes, skills and social support perceptions recorded naturally connect with male STEM students' digital technology acceptance, only the variable digital media selfefficacy predicts the criterion among female STEM students. For future research, it is recommended to focus the research field on measures to promote the sustainable development of study and career-related interests among female STEM students during their studies.Source Type:Article1 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Metadata only Acquisition of English relative clauses by native speakers of Kurdish Sorani(2023)The present study investigates several linguistic factors that might be determinants of differences in the ease of acquisition of relative clauses (RCs) in L2 contexts, using the acquisition of English relative clauses by Kurdish Sorani native speakers. The analysis of 1440 subject and object RCs formed by Kurdish Sorani-speaking learners of English in a sentence combination task and a sentence translation task indicates that the syntactic functions of the noun phrase (NP) relativized in the RC, the position of the RC in the matrix clause (whether centre- or right-embedded), and the properties of RCs in L1 affect the acquisition and the formation of RCs in L2. The study also provides evidence that the syntactic functions of the relativized NP in the matrix clause, and the consistency/inconsistency of word orders in L1 and L2 do not influence the acquisition of RCs in L2.Source Type:Article - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Metadata only Adapting Dementia Care Management to a Regional German Context: Assessment of Changes in Acceptability, Appropriateness, and Feasibility(2024); ; ; Dementia care management, an evidence-based care concept in Germany, optimizes care for people with dementia and their caregivers. Implemented by qualified professionals, it comprises intervention modules addressing treatment and care, medication management, and caregiver support. Positively evaluated in one federal state, it’s recommended for nationwide integration into routine care. Since the infrastructure of the German healthcare system differs regionally, the concept underwent adaption for regional implementation in a participatory, iterative process. Five local healthcare experts as co-researchers tested and adjusted selected components of the concept in a pilot study. This trend analysis aims to assess the adapted concept for acceptance, appropriateness, and feasibility. A total of 89 intervention modules were tested over 18 weeks, and the co-researcher’s assessment was gathered through an accompanying online survey. The participatory process itself was rated positively overall, but technical problems had a negative impact on the implementation and evaluation of the care concept.Source Type:Article - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Publication Metadata only Adaptive quarklet tree approximation(2024)This paper is concerned with near-optimal approximation of a given univariate function with elements of a polynomially enriched wavelet frame, a so-called quarklet frame. Inspired by hp -approximation techniques of Binev, we use the underlying tree structure of the frame elements to derive an adaptive algorithm that, under standard assumptions concerning the local errors, can be used to create approximations with an error close to the best tree approximation error for a given cardinality. We support our findings by numerical experiments demonstrating that this approach can be used to achieve inverse-exponential convergence rates.Source Type:Article
