Business founders aged over 50 years: between necessity and opportunity
We have conducted a series of interviews in three German regions. The data from these regions provided an overview of typical economic structures in Germany (industrial, service, and agriculture regions). The bank perspective, the consultant perspective, and the founder perspective have been evaluated. The interviews concerned risk and insurance, financing, motivation and self-realization, satisfaction, time management, chances and obstacles, products, ideas, and sectors, red and blue ocean strategies, and founding methods. The investigation reveals a very large range of founder types and their special opportunities and problems and may indicate ways to promote the founding activities of the elderly.

    Betriebserkundung „online“? Geht das?
The domain-specific teaching method of company exploration represents a central com-ponent in the vocational orientation of students. As a variant of direct practical contact, students gain an insight into a company during a company exploration. The increasing number of possible occupations that require training and of study opportunities, however, lead to the fact that nowadays it is becoming increasingly more difficult for young adults to sufficiently inform themselves about the different offers available. Especially adoles-cents from rural areas or underage adolescents face the problem that the company they would like to become acquainted with or the occupation they are interested in are not accessible to them. Therefore, the possibility of an online company exploration is represented in the following essay. Is it possible to explore a company via the internet? Which technical devices can be used for this purpose? How can an online company exploration be designed and realized?

    Ökonomische Grundbildung
Basic economics education for adults was not discussed in research over years. Triggered by a service contract of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research the topic has been moved into the focus of science, without a fundamental discussion of the concept, the educational objectives and the target groups had been initiliazed.

Die Soziale Marktwirtschaft aus dem Blickwinkel von Schulbüchern in NRW
To follow current surveys, the acceptance of our economic system achieves low values for a large part of the German population. But is the crisis of meaning of the social market economy just a current phenomenon? Or is a widespread lack of understanding on economic issues cause for the formation of the dilemma? The authors examine the question whether the problem is caused by a communication crisis at school. Therefore the construct of the social market economy from the perspective of textbooks in NRW will be examined. The results of this didactic reflection should to assist the search for the trouble spot.

Modellierung ökonomischer Kompetenz in einer Pilotstudie zu ECOS
Modelling Economic Literacy is still one of the research desiderata in economic education. Up to now, a convincing model for an empirical analysis was not yet presented that meets the requirements of a large-scale assessment. This is illustrated in the paper at hand, starting with a detailed synthesis of the competence definition of Weinert. After that the previous studies in the field of economic education are subject to a critical analysis. Then we try to integrate our new model of Economic Literacy into the existing approaches. This construct, which is expected to fix the identified problem areas, would therefore open economic Literacy for empirical tests, forms the basis for the pilot study of ECOS.

    Informelles Lernen und ökonomische Bildung
The authors argue that a large part of economic competencies in adolescents are likely to be acquired in informal settings because generally economic education is taught only to a small amount in German schools. In order to assess the very character and extend of in-formal learning in economic education the authors explain the theoretic background and present a pilot project (ECOS - Economic Competencies Study). We assume that performance in a simulated online environment is regarded as an indicator for competencies. With this method informally acquired competencies in economic education are to be quantitatively assessed.
