Abstract
Many people are afraid of spiders. In Germany, including Siegen-Wittgenstein, the so-called Nosferatu spider (scientific name: Zoropsis spinimana) continues to spread. Even though this spider, originally native to the Mediterranean region, is usually not dangerous to humans, many people are afraid of the Nosferatu spider. But why are so many people scared of animals, especially spiders? And what exactly are feelings such as fear and anxiety? How can individuals who are affected overcome these unpleasant feelings? Can psychotherapy help, and how does psychotherapy work for anxiety and fear? Dr. Matthias Sperl, psychotherapist at the University of Siegen, answers these questions in a radio interview with radio host Max Schepp on Radio Siegen.
