Abstract
Alcohol dependence does not only affect the addicted but has a profound impact on all family members around them: on their behaviour patterns, their role within the family system as well as their (emotional) co-dependence.
The afflicted family is thus defined as “multi-dysfunctional” by its social surrounding.
Therefore the relation between socialisation and alcoholism is to be examined. Different theories on alcohol dependence are discussed as well as different approaches to child raising, malfunctions of socialisation and the influence of family patterns.
Supportive interventions for the family (and their children) are described concentrating on social-pedagogical methods with therapeutic treatment. Systemic approaches, community-provided assistance and institutional networks for individual cases are considered as well as the possibilities of various preventive measures.
