Source Type:Periodical PartJournal:Navigationen - Zeitschrift für Medien- und KulturwissenschaftenVolume number:19,27 7 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Access status: Metadata only , PATTERN RECOGNITION OF ROUGH SURFACES BY USING GONIOMETRIC SCATTERED LIGHT(2018); Nowadays, most techniques for evaluating rough metal surfaces are based on tactile or confocal measurement procedures. However, these technologies have disadvantages in respect to measuring speeds, resistance to vibration, impact and dust.In this paper we present a novel surface measurement approach, which uses the scattering light technology. Our approach enhances the state-of-the-art scattering light-based surface measurement methodology in both the detector setup and evaluation of the raw intensity values acquired by the scattered light device. The main goal in optimizing the measurement setup is to capture scattering parameters for rough surfaces in a range greater than 10 µm based on an enlarged detector array.Regarding the evaluation, we propose a pattern recognition approach which maps the reflection intensity I back to material structures and the tenpoint mean roughness Rz, the golden standard in tactile roughness characterization.Based on this approach, we are able to classify rough surface deviations like stripes using a simple but robust thresholding. In order to demonstrate the generality of our approach, we evaluate our approach using two rather different materials, i.e. brushed stainless steel and anodized aluminium.Source Type:ArticleDOI:10.24425/1181602 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Access status: Metadata only , Performance improvements in horizontally integrated production networks through real-time reschedulingin the event of disruptionsRescheduling is a frequently used reactive strategy in order to limit the effects of disruptions on throughput times in multi-stage production processes. However, organizational deficits often cause delays in the information on disruptions, so rescheduling cannot limit disruption effects on throughput times optimally. Our approach strives for an investigation of possible performance improvements in multi-stage production processes enabled by realtime rescheduling in the event of disruptions. We developed a methodology whereby we could measure these possible performance improvements. For this purpose, we created and implemented a simulation model of a multi-stage production process. We defined system parameters and varied factors according to our experiment design, such as information delay, lot sizes and disruption durations. The simulation results were plotted and evaluated using DoE methodology. Dependent on the factor settings, we were able to prove large improvements by real-time rescheduling regarding the absorption of disruption effects in our experiments.Source Type:Article3 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Access status: Open Access , Remote control of the synthesis of a [2]rotaxane and its shuttling via metal-ion translocation(2019); ; Schmittel, MichaelRemote control in an eight-component network commanded both the synthesis and shuttling of a [2]rotaxane via metal-ion translocation, the latter being easily monitored by distinct colorimetric and fluorimetric signals. Addition of zinc(II) ions to the red colored copper-ion relay station rapidly liberated copper(I) ions and afforded the corresponding zinc complex that was visualized by a bright sky blue fluorescence at 460 nm. In a mixture of all eight components of the network, the liberated copper(I) ions were translocated to a macrocycle that catalyzed formation of a rotaxane by a double-click reaction of acetylenic and diazide compounds. The shuttling frequency in the copper-loaded [2]rotaxane was determined to k298=30 kHz (ΔH≠=62.3±0.6 kJ mol−1, ΔS≠=50.1±5.1 J mol−1 K−1, ΔG≠298=47.4 kJ mol−1). Removal of zinc(II) ions from the mixture reversed the system back generating the metal-free rotaxane. Further alternate addition and removal of Zn2+ reversibly controlled the shuttling mode of the rotaxane in this eight-component network where the ion translocation status was monitored by the naked eye.Source Type:Article1 7 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Access status: Open Access , Emergent collaboration infrastructures: technology design for inter-organizational crisis management(2014)The complexity and interconnectedness of current working environments encourages organizations, businesses and individuals to collaborate beyond spatial, temporal as well as organizational boundaries. These collaborations are potentially supported by information and communication technology (ICT) among mobile and ubiquitous systems. The academic field Computer-Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) is primarily recognized for focusing on ICT support for collaboration practices as opposed to the computerizing of formal procedures. ICT, in this view, needs to reflect the dynamic nature of cooperation and collaboration. The notion emergence as coined by Lewes (1875) and interpreted by Goldstein (1999) refers to dynamic contexts that cannot be anticipated in their full extent before they actually occur. Emergent collaboration refers to the need for spontaneous collaboration in novel and changing structures and occurs in application fields such as inter-organizational crisis and emergency management, which by definition contain the unforeseeable. This dissertation contributes to research into infrastructures for emergent collaboration. Using the example of crisis management, it addresses (1) emergent collaboration practices and how they reveal work infrastructure limitations, (2) novel concepts and artifacts to support emergent collaboration, (3) their effects on the ability to deal with emergent situations and (4) methodological implications for technology design for emergent collaboration infrastructures in inter-organizational settings. Design case studies (Wulf et al., 2011), inspired by action research (Lewin, 1958) and following Hevner and Chatterjee’s suggestion (2010) to integrate action research with design research, are applied as a practice oriented research method. They contain three phases: an empirical analysis of the practices in the field, the development of innovative ICT artifacts with continuous participation of end-users related to the empirical findings and the evaluation of their appropriation (Pipek, 2005) in practice. In the case reported here, the empirical study on emergent collaboration by police and fire services, aid agencies, energy network operators and citizens in emergencies in two counties in Germany outlined the importance of improvisation work in situation assessment as well as mobile collaboration and reporting practices. The ICT design aimed towards the support of these emergent practices, illustrated by various concepts and prototypes. They comprise (1) an inter-organizational social network for emergency management (SiRena), (2) an inter-organizational situation assessment client (ISAC) aswell as mobile applications for (3) the ad hoc participation in mobile collaboration (MoCo) and (4) the articulation of information needs in mobile reporting (MoRep). Based on the empirical, technical and practical findings, the subsequent analysis uses the concept of infrastructuring (Pipek & Wulf, 2009), the integrated perspective on the design and use of information systems, and derives implications for emergent collaboration infrastructures, which contribute overall to the academic fields CSCW, Human Computer Interaction (HCI) and Information Systems (IS).Source Type:Doctoral Thesis4 20
