Publication Access status: Open Access , Mobile health platforms for active and healthy ageing support in older adults : design ideas from a participatory design studyIn this paper, we provide a participatory design study of a mobile health platform for older adults that provides an integrative perspective on health data collected from different devices and apps. We illustrate the diversity and complexity of older adults’ perspectives in the context of health and technology use, the challenges which follow on for the design of mobile health platforms that support active and healthy ageing (AHA) and our approach to addressing these challenges through a participatory design (PD) process. Interviews were conducted with older adults aged 65+ in a two-month study with the goal of understanding perspectives on health and technologies for AHA support. We identified challenges and derived design ideas for a mobile health platform called “My-AHA”. For researchers in this field, the structured documentation of our procedures and results, as well as the implications derived provide valuable insights for the design of mobile health platforms for older adults.Source Type:Article2 9 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Access status: Open Access , Schwerpunkt: Partizipation verwirklichen - Zur Weiterentwicklung Sozialer Dienste im analogen und digitalen RaumDigital information and communications technologies are becoming an increasingly important part in everyday life of a growing number of people. Their development and natural use are progressing even faster with a wide range of possible applications addressing all areas of life. While the digitization of communication processes is sometimes said to have democratizing forces, critical reflection on the potential and impact of digital information and communication technologies on participation dynamics in different areas of life seems urgently needed. The Authors would like to contribute to a critical reflection on digital innovations and their impact on the future design of social services. The bilingual edition further aims to make this contribution accessible to a European and global audience.Source Type:Periodical PartJournal:SIEGEN:SOZIAL - Analysen, Berichte, Kontroversen (SI:SO)Volume number:26,1-23 3 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Publication Access status: Open Access , Travelling by taxi brousse in Madagascar(2018); ; ; Organising public mobility is a global challenge. However, most studies directed at ICT support approach the subject from the perspective of developed countries. In contrast, we conducted a modest and initial attempt to study practices of public transportation in Madagascar – one of the poorest countries in Africa. We found that central assumptions, usually unquestioned in prevailing studies, were challenged in the context of this developing country. We present an empirical study which analyses how collective taxis, locally called Taxi Brousses, are used in overland travel. The study reveals complex socio-political conditions which passengers face in this country. Security as well as corruption issues shape these transportation practices. Based on our findings, we indicate opportunities for supporting intra-organisational cooperation and the customers’ interaction with ICT artefacts.Source Type:ArticleJournal:Media in action : interdisciplinary journal on cooperative mediaVolume number:2018,1-Artikel_031 12
