    Though a significant amount of classroom research has been done in Germany, and even more in the Anglo-American world, the content of instruction was not being questioned as thoroughly as e. g. methodology or classroom management. What is the "content of instruction?" The author breaks this large question down into the following more simple questions: What opportunities for pedagogical action become accessible for teachers when they perceive "instruction content" as more than just something prescribed in the syllabus which is to be transferred to the heads of the students? What can a particular content signify to the students who deal with it in their lessons and classes? He argues that classroom work aims at the construction of valid pictures ff the world the students live in and have to live in in their future lives.

    Was ist Erziehung : eine Einführung in die Erziehungswissenschaft

    Das Buch führt propädeutisch in die Bereiche ein, die von der Erziehungs- und der Bildungswissenschaft bearbeitet werden. Dazu werden zunächst die Begriffe "Erziehung" und "Bildung" definiert und die Voraussetzungen bestimmt, die Erziehung und Bildung möglich und notwendig machen. Dann wird in die so genannten "Handlungsfelder" erzieherischer Arbeit eingeführt: Familie, Vorschuleinrichtungen, Jugendhilfe sowie Schule und Unterricht, dazu die Ziele und Mittel der Erziehung und Bildung. Darauf folgen Aspekte von "Erziehung in der Gesellschaft": Sozialisation und Rolle, das Bildungssystem und die Bildungspolitik. Im Blick auf das Studium, dem das Buch dient, wird sodann "Erziehung als Beruf" thematisiert. Den Schluss bilden ein kurzer Ausblick auf die Erziehungswissenschaft als Wissenschaft und, als Anhang, eine Einladung zur Beschäftigung mit der Geschichte der Erziehung.
