But what are the origins of fear and anxiety? What happens in our body when we feel threatened? What is the difference between anxiety and fear? And when do anxiety and fear become so severe that we speak of an anxiety disorder? Dr. Matthias Sperl is a psychological psychotherapist (cognitive behavioral therapy) and conducts research on the neurophysiological mechanisms of anxiety at the University of Siegen.
