Abstract
Single fluorescent dye molecules from the perylenedicarboxiimde class embedded
in Polystyrene were imaged and studied spectroscopically by means of tracing their
fluorescence spectrum with a temporal resolution of 1s. All of the investigated dyes
exhibited a wide diversity of spectral properties and a multiplicity of dynamic
phenomena. In order to analyse these phenomena a detailed description and
classification was performed, succeeded by statistical analysis.
The various parameters of single spectra were gauged and recorded by a specially
developed software. The statistical analysis of the recorded parameters gave access
to representative and specific properties of the investigated Dye/Host-System, even
for quantities which are not accessible in ensemble experiments.
The investigation in distributions of those quantities and studies on their correlation
allowed extensive statements on molecular behaviour of both the dye and the
polymer. The different forms of appearance in spectral dynamics were examined
for coherence. Further the origin of the dynamic phenomena were widely
contained. It was taken care, that all introduced concepts, methods and charts are
at possible commonly applicable.
