Abstract
Healthcare systems are facing growing challenges. Developments such as demographic change and increased treatment needs are contributing to the emergence of care deficits. In many places, it is not possible to meet the increasing demand, which jeopardizes nationwide healthcare provision. Parallel to this development, transformative digitalization processes can be observed, which are accelerated by rapid technological progress and the potential of telemedicine. Technological approaches thereby affect a variety of stakeholder groups. On this basis, the cumulative dissertation takes a multi-perspective stance using empirical methods. The aim of the thesis is to illuminate and integrate the provider and consumer perspectives on the use of telemedicine in current and future patient care, as well as to identify and discuss emerging (ethical) conflicts. In addition, the work addresses implications that can be drawn from the empirical findings for the concrete design of digital technologies in care. Consequently, the work provides an interdisciplinary contribution at the intersection of business and medical informatics, health services research, and social sciences.
