Abstract
Societal and structural change are significantly influenced by technical and technological developments that substantially increase the dynamism of all types of work structures and processes. These processes, called segregations or Entmischungen (forms of separation of work/labour that bring about changes relevant to qualification, which affect both the valorisation of production segments, sectors and fields of activity as well as issues of division of labour, exploitation of knowledge, aptitude for the future, disengagement from work structures, etc.) motivate this thesis to re-evaluate qualification requirements, i.e. identify and analyse the human capabilities needed to ensure that individuals can participate in a democratic and digital society.
To this end, this thesis examines the educational categories of “subject” and “mediation” in the context of the digitalisation of work from a critical-emancipatory epistemological perspective. Using the Internet and vacuum robots as representations, it is possible to demonstrate how the professional pedagogical challenge of mediation can be dealt with in the context of the expanding digital network of work, world and life relationships.
This examination reveals that high levels of critical-reflective and cognitive forms of knowledge are needed to manage digital transformations in such a way that individuals will be able to handle the associated ruptures, discontinuities and ambiguities. Accordingly, this work focuses on the search for new foundations of meaning for subject formation and identity.
