Ein Jahrhundert der Verunsicherung : medienkomparatistische Analysen
According to Susan Sontag, the 20th century ”was born and died in Sarajevo“. After the two World Wars, the Cold War and the Yugoslav War, this fact seems to be relevant through the whole of Europe. It shows its implications in the aesthetics of terror. The book primarily analyses works from the Alps-Adriatic region, which use these aesthetics as an anticipation, as an explanation, as a warning, as an appeal (works by Stefan Zweig, Gabriele d´Annunzio, Miroslav Krleža, Thomas Mann, Roman Polanski, Władysław Szpilman, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Michelangelo Antonioni, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Tarsem Singh, Derek Jarman, Giuseppe Tornatore, Ferdinand von Schirach, Slavenka Drakulić, Jasmila Žbanić, Danis Tanović, Oliviero Toscani, U2). These various works unmask the 20th century as a successor to the 16th century, as a century of insecurity and uncertainty.

Paragone 1900 : Studien zum Futurismus
The twentieth century can be defined as a new century of insecurity and uncertainty. Within media studies, people often speak about a crisis of gestures and movement in pictures and texts at the beginning of the 20th century, which accompanies the development of the new media. This refers to a new paragone, a comparison of the old arts and the new media, as can be observed in the First Italian Futurism (1909–1918). The new media photography and film compete with the much older arts painting and sculpture. In this intermedial and comparative study, the author analyzes the new technical and medial developments as a change in perceptual patterns in Italian Futurism and in the artistic developments which followed.
