Source Type:Other4 23 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Access status: Open Access , Why there is no fact of reason in the Groundwork : three arguments(2016)Endless disagreements as to whether Kant defends this or that particular claim in this or that particular text have accompanied the work of Kant interpretation from the very beginning. Would one have to be regarded as disreputable and ill-disposed to think that these disagreements simply spring from the nature of the texts themselves? I think so. For while we cannot deny that there are different opinions about the question, for example, of whether Kant is already claiming the existence of a “fact of reason” in the Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals (GMS) before he explicidy makes this claim in the Critique of Practical Reason (KpV), it would be a genetic fallacy to conclude from this that the question is unanswerable and simply arises from the unfathomable character of the texts.Source Type:Book Part4 8 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Source Type:Book Part3 4 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Access status: Open Access , Ethics for children and ethics for adults?(2001)Is there a difference between ethics for children and ethics for adults? Unless we advocate a relativistic ethics in which case what is good and right would be relative to the age of the acting subjects we are prone to think not: what is good is good and what is right is right no matter how old you are. So it appears that the ethics we teach adults should be the same ethics we teach children. However, there are two problems. First, what ethics do we teach adults? Second, how much ethical receptivity do children possess?Source Type:Article4 19 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Access status: Open Access , "A free will and a will under moral laws are the same": Kant’s concept of autonomy and his thesis of analyticity in Groundwork III(2013)In section 1 of GMS III, Kant claims that “a free will and a will under moral laws are the same” (447.6–10). 1 h is claim expresses Kant’s concept of autonomy; after all, the concept of freedom is the “key” (446.6) to this concept. So if we understand freedom in its relation to morality, we understand autonomy. But how are we to understand this relation? On the standard reading, Kant’s claim is that a free will is under the moral law as a Categorical Imperative (CI); hence, once it is shown that we are free it is shown that we are obliged by the CI. 2 h is interpretation, I will argue, is incorrect.Source Type:Book Part3 10 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Access status: Open Access , The deliverances of warranted Christian belief(2015)After more than 2500 years of philosophy, it is very hard to leave a new and lasting trace in this perennial human enterprise. A pretty sure sign of such a trace is that people begin to wonder what exacdy it is that the philosopher claims. To ask such a question is to do historiography of philosophy; its task is not to figure out whether what is being claimed is true and whether how it is argued for is valid. Rather, the task is to decipher what is being claimed; after all, how are we to say whether a given proposition is true or an argument sound, if we don’t know what the proposition says or the argument is in the first place?Source Type:Book Part716 296 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Source Type:Article1 4 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Access status: Open Access , Moral validity and moral motivation : critical notes on Nunner-Winkler’s ethics of voluntary self-commitment(2003)For many years Gertrud Nunner-Winkler has been occupied with empirical research on the complex subject-matter of moral development, motivation and knowledge. Although so-called descriptive ethics is rather looked down upon by professional ethicists, Nunner-Winkler’s works demonstrate that one can learn a great deal from experience.Source Type:Article4 7 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Source Type:Book Part5 7 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Source Type:Book Part2 5
