Publication Access status: Metadata only , Developing a competency model for telerehabilitation therapists and patients: Results of a cross-sectional online surveyTelerehabilitation is a new form of care that provides digital access to rehabilitative services. However, it places many demands on the users–both patients and therapists. The aim of this study was to determine the requirements and competencies needed for successful usage, identify person- and context-specific differences and develop a competency model. We conducted two cross-sectional online surveys with telerehabilitation patients and therapists from Germany during June-August 2023. The adjusted dataset of 262 patients and 73 therapists was quantitatively analyzed including descriptive and bivariate statistics. Group differences were assessed using t-tests or U-tests. The development of two telerehabilitation competency models was guided by a competency modeling process. The surveys show that patients need to gather program information before program start, follow therapist’s instructions, adapt therapy, deal with health problems, as well as motivate and remind oneself during the program. Therapists need to inform and instruct patients, adapt therapy, carry out technical set-up and support, give medical support, guide and monitor patients, give feedback, motivation and reminder, as well as documentation. The competency model for patients includes 23 and the model for therapists 24 core competencies, including various required areas of knowledge, skills, attitudes and experiences. The three most relevant competencies for patients are self-interest in the program, self-awareness and self-management. Also, disease severity, age, and language abilities can enable successful execution. Program type, technology affinity, and age significantly influence the rated relevance of competencies. The three most relevant competencies for therapists are therapeutic-professional skills, medical and telerehabilitation knowledge. The type of therapy practiced and language abilities can enable successful execution. Therapist’s age, technology affinity, and job type significantly impact the rated relevance. The models should be applied to develop tailored training formats and support decisions on the selection of suitable therapists and patients for telerehabilitation.Source Type:Article2 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Access status: Open Access , Hosting an online World Café to develop an understanding of digital health promoting settings from citizen's perspectiveBrown and Isaacs’World Café is a participatory research method to make connections to the ideas of others. During the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic and the corresponding contact restrictions, only digital hostings of World Cafés were possible. This article aims to present and reflect on the potentials and challenges of hosting onlineWorld Cafés and to derive recommendations for other researchers. Via Zoom and Conceptboard, three online World Cafés were conducted in August 2021. In the World Cafés, the main focus was on the increasing digitization in settings in the context of health promotion and prevention from the perspective of setting members of educational institutions, leisure clubs, and communities. Between 9 and 13 participants participated in three World Cafés. Hosting comprises the phases of design and preparation, realisation, and evaluation. Generally, hosting an online World Café is a suitable method for participatory engagement, but particular challenges have to be overcome. Overall café hosts must create an equal participation environment by ensuring the availability of digital devices and stable internet access. The event schedule must react flexibly to technical disruptions and varying participation numbers. Further, compensatory measures such as support in the form of technical training must be implemented before the event. Finally, due to the higher complexity of digitalisation, roles of participants and staff need to be distributed and coordinated.Source Type:Article380 797 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Access status: Open Access , Modellierung von Kompetenzen in der Telerehabilitation: Erforderliche Kompetenzen, Schulungsbedarfe und Kompetenzentwicklung in der digitalen Reha-Nachsorge in Deutschland(2026)Background: The use of digital technology to deliver rehabilitation services – also known as telerehabilitation – offers the potential for improved continuity of care, quality of care, and patient-centeredness due to its location- and time-independent nature and the adaptability of the programs. At the same time, telerehabilitation programs place new demands on patients and therapists. If users are not adequately prepared for program usage and lack the necessary com-petencies, the success of implementation and utilization can be hindered. Against this back-ground, this dissertation aims to develop and apply a competency model for patients and the-rapists in telerehabilitation. Methods: The dissertation is based on four studies employing var-ious qualitative and quantitative research approaches that draw on the competency modeling process to identify required competencies, existing training needs, and quality requirements for competency development in telerehabilitation in Germany. It adopts an interdisciplinary per-spective on the research topic and synthesizes models and theories from health literacy, imple-mentation, and educational research that shape the conceptual understanding of competencies and competency development and serve as the theoretical foundation. Results: Patients and therapists perform a wide range of tasks related to the preparation and execution of telerehabil-itation. The required competencies are complex and can be categorized into the four dimensions of knowledge, skills, attitudes, and experience. For patients, personal interest in the program, self-awareness, self-management skills, and openness toward new things are the most relevant competencies; for therapists, these are therapeutic-professional skills, medical knowledge, and telerehabilitation knowledge. The results imply that the tasks and competencies required vary depending on the user, technology, and context, with the type of program standing out as the most important differentiating factor in patients’ assessment of the relevance of competencies. Both user groups demonstrate a moderate to high level of competency and minimal training needs regarding telerehabilitation. Patients and therapists who are less technology-affine demonstrate more and higher training needs. Therapists and patients in Germany currently have access to a variety of information and training offers. However, with regard to the identified quality requirements for competency development, current practice shows deficiencies: oppor-tunities for practical testing are lacking, and the provision of information about telerehabilita-tion in rehabilitation facilities is neither standardized nor widespread. Conclusions: The com-petent use of telerehabilitation requires appropriate user-, technology-, and context-related con-ditions. Needs-based information and training programs, the integration of telerehabilitation into therapeutic vocational training curricula, and user participation in the development of new programs can contribute to the successful application of telerehabilitation in the futureSource Type:Doctoral Thesis7 11 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Source Type:Article3
