Publication Access status: Open Access , Kommunen zwischen Resistenz, Resilienz und Akkommodation(2023); The following article exemplifies how interactional linguistic and discourse linguistic procedures intertwine by comparing the interactional practice during a municipal event and the press coverage accompanying the event. The study is based on the participation format Vereinsfrühschoppen that takes place in the city of Viernheim on a regular basis. For this purpose, the concepts of political communication (2) and participation are first introduced and related to the object under consideration (3). Then, transcript excerpts from the on-site interaction will be considered and examined with a view to resistant, resilient, and adapting behaviour for the purpose of self-positioning on the part of the mayor and municipal administration (4). The examination of local press coverage provides an insight into the external perspective on the event and the on-site interaction in the local press (5). In a conclusion, interaction practice and press coverage are compared (6).Source Type:BookSeries:Transformationen des Populären. Publication Access status: Open Access , Popularisierung von Dankesritualen in der Bürgermeisterkommunikation in Sozialen Medien(2023); This article explores the popularization of municipal rituals of mayoral communication on social media. It investigates the strategies employed by actors in this process and the role played by the media capabilities of these platforms. Specifically, the study examines how the popularization of these rituals on social media influences continuity and change in social knowledge relations. It focuses on three main aspects: (1) new practices of interactive, sociotechnical ascertainment, measurement, enactment, and communication of popularity, (2) the utilization and transformation of embedded knowledge resources, and (3) conflicts surrounding the desirability or undesirability of popularity, particularly in the realm of local politics. On a theoretical level, this working paper aims to apply the concept of common ground from the perspective of interactional and psycholinguistic theories to shed light on the these questions, using mayoral communication as an illustrative example.Source Type:BookSeries:Transformationen des Populären. Publication Access status: Open Access , Umkehr der BeweislastUmkehr der Beweislast (reversal of the burden of proof), a central term of the CRC 1472 Transformations of the Popular, describes the shift from an axiological framework of asymmetrical ‘high’/‘low’ semantics to a distinction between ‘popular’ and ‘non-popular’. What used to be validated through its affiliation to high culture may face new pressures to legitimize itself in a system focused on being noticed by many. Popularity thus functions as a resource that can enhance or challenge evaluation standards. This is illustrated and concretized through five case studies: from the Schiller-Nicolai debate in the 18th century, to Popliteratur around 2000, and digital platforms such as the official Perry Rhodan forum, the social-reading-platform Wattpad, or Instagram as a space for local political communication. It indicates that popularity does not replace existing hierarchies but rather creates tensions between ‘high’ and ‘low’ in new regimes of valuation and valorization. The Umkehr der Beweislast describes dynamic processes that combine qualitative and quantitative approaches. Therefore, a multi-perspective analysis is crucial for understanding power structures as well as legitimization and evaluation mechanisms.Source Type:BookSeries:Transformationen des Populären.
