Ursachen und Maßnahmen zur Bewältigung von Währungs- und Finanzkrisen am Beispiel der Asienkrise : Lehren für zukünftige Hilfsprogramme des Internationalen Währungsfonds

Time and again currency and financial crises occur and in the course of that lively discussions ermerge with experts concering the questions: To what extent is it possible to prevent countries from such crises by seizing appropriate precautions? What kind of measures might dampen and what kind of measures might aggravate these crises? The debate is often focussed on the IMF and its aid packages. One of the last twin crises not only with regional but also with global economic effects, was the so called "Asian crises". This paper tries to analyzeobjectively the crises firstly by working out the causes, secondly by evaluating the IMF aid packages for Indonesia, South Korea, Thailand and comparing the results to the strategy of Malaysia, that established capital controls. Finally,already announced suggestions to manage such crises are assessed and new ones developed.
